Abstract
The data on the levels and cause of death is critical in determining the importance of
public health and in designing appropriate interventions to reduce mortality. Accurate
information on the nature and prevalence of causes of death is essential to guide policy-makers
in setting priorities for different health programmes across country. The size and geographical
distribution of occurrence of deaths by their causes for different age-groups, sex, residence and
various other characteristics are of immense value to the public health planners, medical
scientists, epidemiologists and researchers. The present report on Causes of Death in India:
2014-2016 under the domain of Sample Registration System (SRS) covers all the 36 States and
UTs.
